In my decade of working with seniors, I have realized one big factor in a senior’s ability to thrive as they age, is whether or not they feel a sense of purpose. Feeling engaged in your life, and connected to others can provide feelings of joy and belonging that help seniors combat depression, loneliness, and isolation.
When I worked in Assisted Living, I often heard that the activities offered was the number one reason the senior decided to move to the community, wanting to be more active and connected with others. So, how do we find that feeling of connection and purpose in home care? Lucky for us, there are individuals like Sarah Bird, of Moments with Purpose. Sarah is a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, an artist, and a former activities director in the senior living community space. Sarah has a mission in life to bring purpose and passion back to seniors, regardless of their ability level or where they live.
